Election Results Reporting Subgroup
This subgroup is creating a common data format for election results reporting.
There are two phases to this effort:
- Phase 1 - create initial version 1.0 specification and use as possible in 2015-2016 elections
- Phase 2 - based on feedback from Phase 1, create version 2.0 of specification
Phase 2 also involves creation of a repository of identifiers for geo-political geographies and for the most common types of contests.
Current Status
The version 1 specification has been issued as NIST Special Publication 1500-100 Election Results Reporting CDF Version 1 (see the URLs in the Working Documents section below). Version 1 was used in the 2016 OH primary and general elections as well as for the general election in NC and LA County.
Work has begun on revising version 1 and incorporating support for items that were missing such as support for RCV (ranked choice voting). To reduce file sizes, a JSON schema is being developed. Once this draft version 2 is complete, it will be reviewed by the Interoperability group and ultimately issued as NIST Special Publication 1500-100 Election Results Reporting CDF Version 2.
