HOW TO: Edit a Page

Editing Content

Since this portal is an editable website, users will spend a great deal of time editing and creating various topic pages.

This page is intended to orient users to the different ways in which they can create and edit content in this portal.

Page content can be edited in several ways:

  1. Default Editing Mode: Using the WYSIWYG Editor
  2. Raw Editing Mode: Editing TWiki Markdown Syntax directly

A WYSIWYG ("What-you-see-is-what-you-get") Editor is the default kind of editor available to users in every page when they click an Edit button. It is similar to mainstream editors, such as MS-Word.

NOTE: Most users will prefer to use the Default Editing Mode. However, some users - i.e., advanced users or users needing more direct control over the formatting - may need to also use the Raw Editing Mode.

Default Editing Mode: Using the WYSIWYG Editor

  1. Go to the page you wish to edit
  2. Open Editor Click the Edit button (to open it in the default, WYSIWYG, editor)
    • NOTE: If you are not yet logged in to the portal, before editing you will be prompted to login.
  3. Toggle Full-ScreenClick the full screen button to open the editor to full screen
  4. Perform editing tasks
  5. Save changes

NOTE: By the upper left-hand corner of the editor is an "Edit help" page. This can provide some initial introduction to the editor.

Copying and Pasting

It can sometimes be very convenient to copy and paste in pre-written content from, say, MS-Word documents.

Typically, this works very well. Just copy and paste content from the original document directly where you want it in the page. A good portion of the original formatting will be preserved automatically.

Once it is in the page, however, a user may wish to change some of the headings to a standard heading size, create additional links from that content to other topic pages in the portal, etc.
